Our Chapter was held at the lovely Prince of Peace Abbey in Oceanside. The sacred silence of the Abbey, the hospitality of the monks, and the liturgies are conducive to prayer and contemplation.
This was the culmination of a year-long planning process with all of our sisters to discern our province direction for the next five years. We have been energized and challenged by the words of Pope Francis in his letter to all consecrated women and men when he proclaimed 2015 the Year of Consecrated Life which ended on February 2, 2016, the World Day of Consecrated Life. He said, “We are called to know and show that God is able to fill our hearts to the brim with happiness.” He continued, “I am counting on you to wake up the world.”
Providentially, our Chapter occurred in between the Year of Consecrated Life and the Year of Mercy. As educators, I believe mercy remains at the heart of all we do.
Our Chapter was composed of 15 sisters. Ten delegates were elected by the sisters-at-large to represent them and the other five members were the outgoing leadership team. Superior General Rosa Maria Sierra Barba traveled here from Guadalajara to preside over these meetings.
I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit strongly during the week. Aside from trusting in God, we renewed our trust in ourselves to pave the way to a faith-filled, successful future for our ministry.
We spent time reviewing our progress and challenges during the past five-year period. Then we determined the key focus areas for the next five years. Finally, we elected the provincial, four councilors and treasurer for the new term, beginning July 1.
I am very pleased to announce the new leadership team for the term 2016-2021 (pictured at left): Sister Lilia Barba, provincial, and Sr. Esmeralda Razo, treasurer. The four councilors are Sr. Maria Esther Nuñez, Sr. Maria Elvia Gonzalez, Sr. Rebeca Muñoz, and Sr. Aurora Lopez.
I am very grateful to God and the members of the outgoing leadership team: Sr. Maria Esther Nuñez, Sr. Adriana Rebeca Zuro, Sr. Lilia Barba, and Sr. Remedios Aguilar, for their wisdom, dedication and support of our mission.
I know we will continue to minister with great joy, love and commitment, honoring the words of our founder, Fr. Silviano Carrillo: to love and serve.
With the grace of God and our own diligent steps, we will continue to praise Him with our lives!
We feel grateful to serve our students and families each day. We appreciate God’s love in action around us and we stop to count our blessings! We offer gratitude to our dear friends for their love, trust and support of our mission that sustains all that we do.
Blessed be God!
